Deviation Actions
Hey guys! for those who don't know, I've been learning to paint for 4 months now. I want to learn as fast as I can from all you pros on here, so I thought I'd start something like an ongoing contest to give away points and help me improve.
So, basically:
I'm giving away points to people who critique my work. Each new deviation of mine will be open for critiques in its comments section, and there will be 3 prizes totalling 140 points per painting:
Prizes:
How will I choose the Best Critique?
The best critique will be the one that best helps me to understand what I need to improve. A good critique will tell me what's good, what's bad, and *how to improve* the bad parts. It doesn't have to be long, but more detailed critiques are better. Also, don't be too nice! I prefer brutal critiques that get straight to the point about what I need to improve on
How long will this give-away go for?
Forever, or at least as far as the foreseeable future.
Can I win all three categories?
Yep, if you're the first, and the best, and you win the random prize, then you'll get 140 points You can submit multiple critiques, e.g. if you thought of another thing to add - it's just that they wont count as multiple items for the random prize.
How often do I post new paintings?
Once a week, minimum - usually more.
I think that's it. This should be fun looking forward to hopefully making some friends in the along the way! If you've got any questions, just pop them in the comments
So, basically:
I'm giving away points to people who critique my work. Each new deviation of mine will be open for critiques in its comments section, and there will be 3 prizes totalling 140 points per painting:
Prizes:
- First Critique - 20
- Best Critique - 100
- Random Critique or Comment - 20
Notes:
The 'First Critique' prize goes to the first critique, unless it's really short (i.e. less than 100 words, say). All 3 prizes will be sent and announced in the comments section of the deviation roughly 1 week after the deviation's submission date - and then the contest will close for that deviation. The 'Random Critique' prize can be won by anyone (even if you gave a very short critique or just a helpful comment).
Okay, so what do you do now?
Finish reading this journal, fav it, and then critique one of my deviations that is less than a week old and you're in the draw to win points!

Wacom Bamboo Touch Works, Pen Doesn't [SOLVED!]
If you're having problems with your Wacom Bamboo, especially if the touch works, but the pen doesn't, do this:
Unplug tabletUninstall Bamboo driverUninstall Bamboo DockRestart computerInstall newest Bamboo driver (don't install Bamboo Dock!)Restart computerPlug tablet back in
I had followed all the other advice on the internet which mentioned everything except step 3, but it still didn't work. So I decided to mash all the buttons on the tablet while trying to draw, and (to my astonishment) it worked for a bit. A few seconds later Bamboo Dock flash up on the screen. So, feeling confident that Bamboo Dock had something to do with it, I uninsta
Learning to Paint
This is month 5! I began learning to paint at the start of the year and have done about 30 minutes practice each day since. Exciting times for me at the moment - it feels like my art is improving every day, and I feel like I'm at a tipping point where I'm suddenly starting to 'get' it. Hopefully this lasts!
I'm thinking about joining the spitpaint group, but its so hard to get anything done in half an hour! I'm getting better at moving fast though, and I see that it's really useful to be able to get the basic form down as fast as possible, so it's something I want to keep practising.
For the next few months I want to concentrate on my paint
